Extension of the comment period for the Draft Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement for Proposed Geological and Geophysical Activities in the Mid- and South Atlantic Planning Areas

Special Information:

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) announces an extension of the comment period for the Draft Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement for Proposed Geological and Geophysical Activities in the Mid- and South Atlantic Planning Areas (Draft Atlantic G&G Programmatic EIS).  In April 2012, BOEM held 18 public meetings in nine different cities along the Atlantic Coast to give interested parties an opportunity to comment on the Draft Atlantic G&G Programmatic EIS (see our BOEM project webpage for further information http://www.boem.gov/Oil-and-Gas-Energy-Program/GOMR/GandG.aspx).

The public meetings were a part of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process where Federal, State, and local government agencies and other interested parties have the opportunity to review and comment on this Agency's NEPA evaluations.  The extension of the comment period allows more time for the agency to collect technical comments on the Draft Atlantic G&G Programmatic EIS's approach and evaluation to assist BOEM in preparing the Final Atlantic G&G Programmatic EIS.

A Notice of Availability for the Draft Atlantic G&G Programmatic EIS was published in the Federal Register on March 30, 2012 (77 FR 19321), opening a 60-day comment period originally scheduled to close on May 30, 2012.  BOEM has now decided to extend the comment period for this Draft Atlantic G&G Programmatic EIS until July 2, 2012.  You may submit written comments within the extended period in one of the following two ways:

1) In an envelope labeled "Comments on the Draft Atlantic G&G Programmatic EIS" and mailed (or hand carried) to Mr. Gary D. Goeke, Chief, Regional Assessment Section, Office of Environment (MS 5410), Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Gulf of Mexico OCS Region, 1201 Elmwood Park Boulevard, New Orleans, Louisiana  70123-2394;

2) Send comments to BOEM email address:  GGEIS@boem.gov.

You are receiving this notification if you provided us with your email address at some point during scoping for the Draft Atlantic G&G Programmatic EIS. If you would like to receive announcements for public meetings and the availability of our environmental documents for Atlantic activities, please submit your name and contact information to BOEM at the website below. You may also request to be removed from the current BOEM mailing list in the same way. https://www.data.boem.gov/homepg/data_center/other/gmaillist/subscribe.asp
