2009 Wrightsville Beach Surfing Regulations and Zones

Wrightsville Beach SURF Regulations and ZONES FOR 2009

Surfing Regulations

To help ensure the safety of all beach patrons, surfers must be securely attached to their board with a “leash”.

Surfing is always prohibited in the following areas:

  • Within 500 feet of Johnnie Mercer’s Fishing Pier (between Beach Access # 15 & #16)
  • Within 100 feet of Crystal Pier at Oceanic Restaurant (between Beach Access #36 & #37)
  • Within 100 feet of the Masonboro Inlet Jetty (between Beach Access #42 & #43)

From Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, surfing is prohibited within 100 yards of each lifeguard stand. Surfing is prohibited in these areas whenever lifeguards are on duty. Lifeguard stands are normally staffed from 10 AM to 5 PM, but these hours may be extended when the beach is busy. “No Surfing” areas will be clearly marked with flags as shown in the figure below.

Additional “No Surfing” areas may be posted on other locations due to weather conditions, beach population, special events, etc. These areas will also be marked with flags as shown above.  Surfers are reminded to respect the “space” of other beach patrons. Reckless surfing that endangers another person is prohibited.  For more information about surfing at Wrightsville Beach, check with a lifeguard.

  • No Logos = Flat or Really Bad. Pretty much unrideable! A good time to get other things done.
  • 1 Logo = Rideable but not good form. Might not be worth the time or effort but there could be a few okay waves.
  • 2 Logos = Could be fun. Rideable and a few okay waves to be ridden.
  • 3 Logos = Fun! Better than the average day. Worth paddling out depending on the surface conditions.
  • 4 Logos = Really fun. Paddle out if you can. One of the better days of the year.
  • 5 Logos = Rare Epic or All Time conditions. Quitting work or skipping school is an option but not encouraged. Why are you still reading the report! Paddle out now!

Please read the report description for a better explanation of all factors regarding the waves. We report conditions in "A moment in time" and conditions can change right after the report or between reports. Don't kill the messenger. Email Mother Nature for changing the conditions if you miss it. Thanks for checking WBlivesurf.com. The only report in town that checks the surf 4 times daily with our feet in the sand during rain, sleet, snow, or shine.
